One of my ancestors was transported for poaching. I'm proud of that - it was poach or starve.

When I was at school we never learned about anyone but Kings and Queens in History. There was no talk of these brave men in Dorset - a conspiracy of silence. No information in the Dorchester Museum. It was the Communist Party who reprinted the Victims of Whiggery and it went out of print some years back. THANK YOU

This is an excellent site which uses primary sources and popular traditions and songs very effectively indeed. It should be of use to pupils and students of all ages. Hopefully, it can be extended by the use of a brief story outline and by contrasting the role and interpretation of the place of the Tolpuddle Martyrs in history. Very well done Graham. It was a very good idea to add the songs.

In response to a previous comment. I am a decendant of Joseph Brine, James Brines brother. James became a farmer in western Ontario. He and Elizabeth had 11 children. He died at 90. His log home is a landmark in St. Marys Ont.
